Yellowstone Park Updates
Yellowstone National Park snowmobile access for the coming winter season will follow the same usage guidelines as last year. The guidelines include: a total of 720 snowmobiles allowed daily in the park, all snowmobiles must be "best available technology" (BAT), and an authorized Park Concessionaire must accompany all snowmobiles. The West Gate (West Yellowstone, MT) entrance access is 440 snowmobiles each day.

Last winter was an exceptional one for those experiencing the unique wonder of our first national park in winter. The trails were smooth and un-crowded. Wildlife was abundant, with unusually high number of swan and bald eagles being seen each day, along with large herds of elk and buffalo, and even rare sightings of river otters. Many visitors had the opportunity to glimpse some of the Park's wolves from the Druid Peak, Nez Pierce, and Slough Creek packs.

Senator Conrad Burns (R-MT) has amended this year’s Department of the Interior’s Appropriations Bill (H.R. 5386). This amendment would keep Yellowstone National Park open to snowmobiles until 2010. Currently the park is operating under a temporary plan that permits up to 720 snowmobiles to enter the park on a daily basis. The existing plan is set to expire at the end of the 2006-2007 Winter Season. The extension by Senator Burns will allow local businesses and winter travelers to plan beyond the 2007 season. To date, the Appropriations Bill has passed the U.S. House of Representatives and is being placed on the Senate’s Legislative Calendar under General Orders. One thing is for certain; Yellowstone will be open this winter!!! Please continue your individual support and support of H.R. to keep Yellowstone open for snowmobile and snowcoach.
